East Broad Top Railroad

The East Broad Top railroad played an important part in the operation of the Workman's General Store later named Edgar's Place when Edgar Workman took over the operation of the store after his farther, Isaac Workman, died.

The East Broad Top railroad would transport fresh eggs everyday from various farms in Robertsdale, PA.  Additionally, general supplies and freight would be transported from Mt. Union, PA.

In later years, the building of better roads and the trucking industry replaced the railroad as a primary means of supply delivery for the store.

Today, the store is more of a tourist attraction during the summer months of the railroad's operation than a community supply store.  The larger markets in neighboring Orbisonia and surrounding communities have taken over as the principle stores for the community.

Trains run each summer as a tourist attraction.

The railroad had its own machine shops to repair all of its engines and cars.   The shops have fallen into a state of dis-repair.  The Friends of the EBT have started to restore the shops.
